The Alabama Learning Exchange, ALEX, is a great tool for teachers. On the website, http://alex.state.al.us you are exposed to wonderful resources. One tab, the courses of study, allows you to click on a subject and specific grade. After looking around I thought this would be a great tool in getting tips to teach your class, especially since you can pick a specific grade you could work to make it special for your class. You can also go to the lesson plans tab where you can look at again specific plans by subject and grade. This would be a great tool in helping a new teacher get started with new lesson plans. You can register and then log in and make the space your own, which I am sure is very helpful as a teacher. This site has many great links and other resources that I am sure new teachers find very helpful.
One of the tabs is the distance learning tab, where you can find ACCESS. ACCESS, or Alabama Connecting Classroom, Educators, and Students Statewide. This is very helpful for students who may not be exposed to many college credit courses. I know where I went to high school, it was common for people to take AP classes and get college credit for those classes. Many students take more than one or two classes. So for students where this is not as common, ACCESS might allow them to take a few classes and get ahead in their college career. This is a great tool and hopefully grows because everyone deserves a chance at education.
